The Trade Policy project increases students and young professionals’ awareness on international trade and WTO

On February 18, 2022, a group of participants in the first Summer School on Trade Policy and WTO were awarded copies of a leading publication on international trade law, written by Professor Peter Van den Bossche and Werner Zdouc.

Marius Bordalba, Team leader of the EU-funded “Strengthening capacity of the Government of Azerbaijan in the WTO Accession negotiations and other trade related activities” project: “Several participants of the summer school on trade policy and WTO expressed keen interest to participate in project activities to learn more about international trade, WTO law and practice. The books are excellent reading materials on international trade and WTO. We hope that the knowledge gained will be transmitted to their students or organisations where they work in.”

On February 21, 2022, Alida Mahmudova and Marius Bordalba made a 2-hour presentation on current topics in international trade and WTO to 30+ students from the Azerbaijan State University of Economics. Topics covered by the presentation are as follows:

  • WTO and benefits of the multilateral trading system
  • WTO reform
  • New and cross-cutting issues
  • Free trade agreements and customs unions

Recall that in June 2021, together with the ADA University, the project organised and delivered a one-week trade policy and WTO summer school for 23 Azerbaijani students and young professionals.
